Content
The digitization and democratization in the production and distribution process are two different types of content, which must be distinguished. A distinction is – as it came – important because you only through an accurate categorization can decide which business models to the various content types to apply.
User Generated Content
under the title “User Generated Content “(or short UGC) is content of a Web platform that is not authorized by the same vendor platform be created, but rather by the user, based on the platform can access. UGC is supported by the Organization of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in a study defined as follows:
- content made publicly available over the Internet,
- Which reflects a certain amount of creative effort, and
- Which is created outside of professional routines and practices. [1]
The OECD defines the characteristics for UGC therefore as follows: The work must be supervised by a user, in whatever form, eg as text, photography, video, etc. published or at least the intent to publish there. Once the User works with the intention that other users of it is consumed, the Internet makes available, is therefore a UGC before. The number, as many users as a result of the plant can access, is irrelevant. The author has the possibility to access to its production plant to limit and restrict: This is the case if the so-called social networks like Facebook or MySpace specifically intended by the user content is also only one of him defined group to be made available. The creative input of the user may, for example by uploading original videos through the show or write comments about movies, for example in the form of blogs. An important feature of UGC is that manufacturing is generally not in a professional environment. UGC is often produced by amateurs, that those without money or profits to expect. Motivations for this are: networking with peers and enhance their own popularity. Examples of platforms, whose contents mainly produced by the user are: Wikipedia, YouTube, MySpace, or Flickr. But personalized blogs or wikis to include UGC. Some of these original UGC platforms have over the years but steadily gained in popularity, so they naturally for established media and Technology companies such as Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.. or Google marktstrategisch interesting, and thus in a relatively intrinsically dynamic process from the original pattern, any user with a platform for independent publications to offer wegentwickelten and focus instead on the monetarization was. Was it used for many providers supreme criterion as many users present, and hence much content to offer, then the monetarization now for these platforms, just as important. Most clearly shows this trend on YouTube. Since it is by Google, is the ultimate goal: monetization.
Professional Generated Content
The “Professional Generated Content” or “Premium Content” means high-quality digital content, which, in contrast to the UGC, in a professional environment, have been manufactured. The relation of Professional Generated Content is free, but also associated with the user fee models are available or being proposed. The best known example is the U.S. video platform Hulu, a joint venture of NBC Universal, News Corp.. and Disney. About the platform is in contrast to YouTube, exclusive premium content, so can TV series, shows and feature films from the entire catalog of rights of the two companies are consumed. As a further consequence were also content from other providers involved, Comedy Central, Disney Channel and Sundance were mentioned as examples. The service is funded on the one hand, advertising, on the other by connecting sales, and ultimately not all consequences of a squadron is offered for free. Disadvantage of Hulu is that the bulk of the content for copyright reasons, currently on the U.S. territory is limited. Hulu is used by many pages with lots of praise, because the service is very easy to use and serials and films in a good quality. The user numbers speak quite a clear language. Hulu could last much longer attract new viewers than YouTube. It has also been shown to premium content from Hulu on average longer (10.1 min) are consumed than the average of the normal online video (3.2 minutes). [2] < / a> next
